Day 192: No power (This one is for Stephanie)

This morning we had the most awful storm come through. It seriously scared me. It came fast and the winds were not good. I threw the kids into the powder room once the power went out and the trees in the backyard looked like they were bending in half (after gazing down the very dark basement stairs with no flashlight. Yeah, not going down there.) Since 2003, our power has never been out for more than an hour. Ever.

As soon as the worst part of the storm passed, I packed the kids up and headed to church for day one of VBS. My cellphone didn't work. My internet didn't work. My electricity didn't work. Beautiful.

The damage around town was pretty bad. But, God blessed us with electricity at church (which really was a miracle) and VBS went on as planned in beautiful air conditioning. I fully expected our power to be back on when we got home. Nope.

I should have taken some pictures around the neighborhood. Just down the street there was a trampoline in a tree upside down. TONS of trees down, branches everywhere, power lines on the ground. Worst I have seen since living here.

So, this evening some of my favorite people came over to hang out. Tim quickly got the ice cream cake from the freezer and handed out spoons. If we didn't eat it, it was just going to melt away. I felt a little bit like we were on a mission trip. We were hot, sweaty, and laughing like crazy. So, this one is for you Stephanie. (Kelsey and Kelsey too.)
